Day 1038 - Shoesday Tuesday

Shoes: Irregular Choice Tall Tail

A very special Shoesday Tuesday for you this week, featuring absolutely astounding shoes! I can't quite believe I own these, but last week I took the plunge and ordered the Tall Tail unicorn 'extreme' platforms by Irregular Choice (Gold Star) I'd been eyeing all summer. I admit I bought them purely for display purposes (the shoe room needs them) but didn't expect them to be quite so wearable. Yep, you read that correctly, you can actually walk easily in these.
First of all the heel is 8 1/4" and the platform 6", so your foot is pretty flat in the shoe (something I'm not accustomed to). This feels much more comfortable than standard high heels where your foot is angled to cope with a 5" heel and no platform. Obviously it's high though (things look very different from this height), so I doubt it's totally like walking in flats! That said, the first time I wore them, I easily walked around (on a flat surface) without holding onto anything and didn't once wobble or stumble. I am a heel wearing pro, though it's worth remembering I haven't walked in high heels for at least 18 months! I've included a video, because I knew you'd want to see for yourself and this was taken the first time I tried them both on. I can turn, I can stand on one leg without wobbling, I didn't trip up at any point and I can walk confidently. I'm a bit like a headless chook, but that's purely because I had to keep within the small confines of the camera range! I didn't edit out any stumbles, this was the full video (well minus me switching it on and off), with no cuts. The base tapers out and they are quite heavy, both of which make standing and walking easier, but let's be frank, I'm a big and top heavy girl, so if I can wear them without feeling unbalanced, you can't get much more of a test than that. For the sake of my parents stress levels, I wouldn't ever wear them outside and I feel you would have to really concentrate because outdoors with uneven surfaces, cobbles, loose stones, cracks in pavements etc, as anything could cause you to roll on your ankle (as you would in any platform or heel, but you've further to fall in these), so you'd have to fully concentrate. Plus I don't want to be over 6ft! I've been so curious as to whether or not I could walk in them and am pleased I can, but they are so beautiful, I want them displayed in my room next to their matching bag! Size wise, I opted for my usual and the shoe is very shallow. The strap is very short and I can just buckle it up (it helps if I have tights on) in the last hole.  I'll have more detailed images of the actual shoes on Pink Haired Princess later, but for now, what do you think of these?

Fit: 8 1/4" heel and 6" platform. Adjustable buckle fastening. Shallow shoe and short strap, though I just manage to fasten it in the loosest hole (in my usual size).
Comfort: Technically they are extremely comfortable as it's like wearing flat shoes, so your foot is not strained at all. Realistically although they are easy to walk in, you'd have to keep an eye out and concentrate as an uneven surface, loose stone or the like could catch you unawares and topple you.

  1. They're pretty but I could definitely see an.accident happening outside with these. They are great for a centre-piece for the shoe room though!x

    1. They do feel stable, but I know from experience (Jeffrey Campbell Nightwalks) that something could derail you and knock you off your perch!

    1. They are incredible, but yes not the type of thing you'd wear around, often!

  3. Second time I've seen them on foot, super surprised that you were vying for a pair for so long! Personally, I would wear them out at least once, with my daredevil self :P That's how I usually do with new shoes, though: at least one time wear outside. Call me crazy, if you want :)

But yeah, I would probably treat them as centerpieces myself. Be jelly, visitors to my home! Haha, very cute the versions you bought, though~

    1. Haha, thanks! Not sure I'm brave enough to venture outside. I think it would be really difficult to stumble or fall on a flat surface, but outdoors with uneven pavements, stones, drains etc I could see an accident!
