Day 977 - I'm Slicker Than An Oil Spill

Yesterday I had a trip to the opticians. I've been struggling for the past 4 months to make an appointment, between the buses not stopping near there now and a million other things. However, my eyesight isn't any better or worse since last time, so it wasn't urgent. I managed to resist some new frames which sorely disappointed the lovely lady that works there-as she loves spending an hour or more (no joke) with me picking out fancy glasses! I did spy a lovely purple pair with leopard print legs and quite a sharp shape on the way out that I really would've loved but I already have two pairs that work fine for me and can't afford an unnecessary splurge like that just now. It was quite funny because the optician was like "sooo are these the Prada you're wearing today?", I sheepishly said "erm, no, these are the other pair I got. The cheap pair. I actually prefer them." He was a little perplexed that the plain black £30 frames are my favourites! The thing is I'm pretty blind (have worn glasses since age 5), but I never wear them outside. I just never have and it works for me because I can get by extremely well without them and don't want to become completely reliant on them. So obviously I felt I had to wear them outside yesterday, but I got as far as the bus stop opposite my house (literally a few steps) before I took them off because I couldn't see! Honestly it took me about 2 minutes to walk down three steps because I wasn't sure where they were!  I remember once forgetting to put my glasses on before going into the opticians and I'd walked up the shop floor, signed something at the desk and sat down and when the optician came out he said "I notice you seem to get by perfectly alright without them".  He'd been spying on me the entire time, oops!

Day 956 - I Came In Like A Wrecking Ball

So on Wednesday I went to Edinburgh with my Mum to see The Lion King at The Playhouse!  It's a long time since I've been to a show (think the last time was Notre Dame de Paris in London in 2001) and as you know I went to Edinburgh a few weeks ago, but hadn't been for years before that.  Obviously it was a very tiring trip for me and I'll be sore for a couple of weeks, but the novelty of getting to act almost 'normal' for a day is not lost on me.  We 'walked' it rather than taking the wheelchair and actually it was fine, it seems to have been the prolonged sitting that's caused more pain than the walking.  I was quite proud of myself for managing it all and the show was great.  Now, I'm used to getting stared at when out and about, but I (naively) figured if I was in a bigger city like Edinburgh, nobody would look twice.  Eh no, when you're wearing gnomes on your feet, everybody stares!  Honestly everywhere I went, people were gawping and wondering about my hair and shoes and outfit.  Having been on the receiving end of many a rude comment over the years, it was a pleasant change and it seems to have amused a lot of people that day (I even got a "loving your style doll" from a nutter with only two teeth) er yeah thanks!  Hello to the lovely girl that nearly knocked my Mum off the escalator, trying to ask where I got my shoes from! I hope you find yourself a pair : )

Day 944 - Looking Fly With That Sun Dress On

It's unusual that I make it out on a Sunday, don't know why, but it never seems to happen. I did today and I dug out this dress, because for some reason I've not worn it as much as I thought I would. It's quite short in the body and I feel the waist sits too high (just under my bust), so it's not very comfortable. I tried to lengthen it by adding this belt and making my own 'waist', ignoring where the seam sits. I added another cardi over the top to go out as it was chilly again-I passed a woman wearing a huge chunky knit scarf and large fluffy ear-muffs and I know many will think I'm mental for not wearing a coat, but all I could think was "what's she going to wear in December when it's really cold?"

Day 937 - Broke Every Law Except For One

Today I took my friend and her wee boy out for lunch as it was her birthday last week. It was really busy in town, but the renovations have started on our house (massive digger in the garden), so I was glad to get out for some peace! Our mutual school friend works in the restaurant we went to, so we were giggling away and reminiscing about being teenagers!  A scary thought when our friend has a 16 year old daughter!  You've already seen my green dress shaped like this one and I bought this monochrome floral one at the same time, they are a bargainous £8 each. I added a belt with this one and my fabulous gnome heels finally got a real proper outing! Yay!! They were so comfortable and even stood up to the ninja type moves I had to pull getting down our front path, which was completely blocked off by fencing, a skip and truck.

Day 928 - Shouldn't Let You Conquer Me Completely

Been slammed this week, so I apologise for the lack of posts and delay in getting this outfit up. I'd been teasing you with the makeup on facebook, but last night finished that post, which you can see here. Obviously the makeup wasn't a regular thing, but for Monster High Monday! I was fully prepared to wear it outside though, maybe sneaking on some sunglasses, however I got rained off! Annoying, after spending so much time getting ready! I was disappointed too because I was wearing my gnome heels for the first time. The day started off sunny and lovely, but got more and more dull as it progressed. I'd had to go out and take some photos of our house before the renovations start and so I wore the shoes for literally two minutes, then it started chucking it down and I retreated inside. I'll pop some more photos of these shoes up on my Facebook page later.

Comfort:  Once I'd stretched them a bit with thick socks, they feel quite comfortable now, although I haven't worn them for a lengthy period.
