At the end of last month, the Irregular Choice 'Space Station' collection launched. A colourful range of footwear and accessories including the box/sole design from this season, a brand new concept heel and an original way of giving us lights. The boots I bought are Warp Speed (in black) and I fell in love at first sight with the design, as it reminded me of my old poodle ankle boots, a favourite of mine. These fit a little looser, with the flap not being quite as close to the leg and no option to wear them folded down, but still the overall shape is there and I'm loving it. The reason it does fit a little differently/has less flexibility is because of the lights. Lights are not a new concept for IC, we've had them flashing in heels, trainer soles or uppers for years, but this collection brought two new forms. Colour changing light up fabric (yes really!) though not on these boots, but instead the lights are in the piping. Around the top you have pink lights, blue across the toe and orange around the heel. There's no individual bulbs poking through the fabric like we're used to seeing, but LED lighting within the piped areas, more like a fibre optic style lighting. The lights are rechargeable with an on/off switch and settings for constant light, slow flash or fast flash (don't use the last one if you're prone to migraines and/or epileptic as it's really flashy and blinding, though you do have to go through the whole lot in order to switch them back off).
Taking these photos during the day, I've shown them with the lights off, then switched on in indoor daylight and with the blinds shut so it's darker. Obviously the darker it is, the more blinding they are. They're really spectacular when you see them lit, it's very impressive.
If that's not enough though, the brand new rocket heel is also marvellous. It's a really chunky style, but very much a separate heel, not wedge-like like the unicorns or bunnies. The colourful rocket has a gloss finish and large base with glitter, it's super sturdy. There's two stud options for the flap, mine is on in the tightest, but I can get them on and off without needing to unfasten them. On the flap there's a decorative brooch detail with the beautiful cat on the moon from AW20. I really adore this seasons box and sole design (currently my phone wallpaper), so it was a no-brainer for me to get a style that included this print on the uppers. There's something really exciting about a print that continues the whole way around the shoe, onto the sole, for me. Sky Fox are a fabulous older example of this.
I find this style quite generous in size, mostly in width. They are very wide all over the foot and the ankle isn't tight fitting either (I bought my usual 5/38). Space Race and Rock It from this range are on my wishlist, both have the light-up fabric as well as this heel. These are top-end IC prices though, what you pay for innovative designs, but I won't sugar-coat it or try to justify the price especially at a time like this when so many people are struggling. They are a big expense, not one everyone can afford and I acknowledge that. It's likely the other styles will forever be on my wishlist for that reason! If you're shopping at Lottie's, I have a 10% off code you can use isoGmm5492, they also have the tights I'm wearing. This boot comes in navy too and the lights are different shades on those.
Wearing: Cosmic Cat Tights, Irregular Choice (current).
Fit: 4 1/4" heel, small concealed platform (around 3/4"). 2 stud options for fastening flap, slip on. Bought in my regular size (5/38), quite roomy in width, true to size in length.
Comfort: This lining is so cosy and very soft against the foot. I didn't feel like I was being careful with the heel at all, it feels very robust.
OMG they are like totally mega mega awesome! Love the photos showing the lights off :-D
