Day 795 - Time Has Brought Your Heart To Me

Shoes: Wine suede and snakeskin 'Slink' Topshop

Sadly my lovely Grandad (and last remaining Grandparent) passed away this morning. Over the past couple of weeks he's deteriorated significantly, with one illness/infection after another and finally after only a 2-day chest infection, we lost him. It was much, much quicker than any of us expected; even after we've watched his slow deterioration to Alzheimer's over the past 10 years or so (as debilitating as the illness is, it doesn't kill or at least not quickly). I'm sure many of you know, it's a horrid disease to witness (probably more so for those around it) and to be honest it's a blessing that he's at peace now and must be such a relief in a way for my Mum, because it's heart wrenching for her to see her Dad like that. We will all miss him terribly and I want to remember the 'old' Grandad; with the shiny bald head with hair just around the back and sides, the stories he told time and time again of his days as a fireman, painter and as a navigator during the war. My sisters and I would fight over who got to sit in the front seat of his VW Polo if he picked us up from school and how every visit he'd bring us a mini Milky Way and box of Smarties each (which we'd empty out and count who got the most). He had two sons, three daughters, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren (currently). He loved his family and was very much a people person, everybody knew him. He used to hand us ancient photos with a million kids that all looked the same and would say 'who do you know in that?', cue absolute panic trying to find the '5 year old him' in it!  He made the best cakes and mince pie, always had tomato soup and Penguin biscuits for our lunch and every time I managed to bang my head on the cabinet above his kitchen table! I'm sad that he won't ever get to see me married or have children and I'm sad that the Alzheimer's took him away from us so long ago, rest in peace x x x

  2. My most heart-felt condolences for your loss. He sounds like he was quite a character back in the day. The stories you shared put a smile on my face. I still have grandparents from my mum side but from my dad's they both passed away. I miss my grandma and feel sad that I never really knew my grandpa. Sadly, they had divorced. And I was little when he died. I only remember my dad going to the funeral.

I hope you & your family are well.

  4. Do you always set out to look like The Joker in photos or is it a conincidence?

    1. Do you always set out to make spelling mistakes in your insults or is that just a 'conincidence'? Must be a strange life sitting behind an anonymous identity thinking up nasty things to say to people you don't even know. I'll try not to smile in the next photo, so as not to offend you....oh wait, it's MY blog, MY face and I don't actually give a fuck what you think!
